The Fall 2020 issue of The Classic Car magazine featured nine classic cars from the Wallis Bird Estate in an article by Chris Summers. All nine classics were sold at the 1962 "Car Auction of the Century" at the Farnesworth Garage in Locust Valley.

In 1962 H. Dieter Holterbosch purchased W.C. Bird's 1931 Duesenberg Speedster at the "Car Auction of the Century" on Long Island. I thought it would be fun to find out more about H. Dieter and what ever happened to his Duesenberg.

The 1962 “Car Auction of the Century” at the Farnesworth Garage
Continuing yesterday's story of the "Farnesworth" garage, around 1924, the estate was purchased by a Standard Oil heir Wallis Clinton Bird and his wife Marjorie Winifred Kendall. Wallis kept a spectacular collection of cars in the garage.
Never figured out why a gatehouse was erected in this area.
