In the Black Beast Garage: The 1963 Studebaker Avanti
Several sharp-eyed viewers noticed a red Avanti in last week's "Mustang Hoofbeats" post.
Here are views of my real estate partner Ian Zwerdling's Avanti and a pdf of the cover article from the July 1962 issue of Motor Trend.

Interesting that the body was made by MFG, which I knew as a company that made fiberglass boats.
The article spells the name of designer Raymond Loewy incorrectly.
The Studebaker Avanti was the first production car to reach 170 mph. With its supercharged 289-cubic-inch engine, the Avanti broke 29 world speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the early 1960s.
I have attached a couple of pictures of a Supercharged 1964 Avanti.
They still look sleek and beautiful today! And modern!
Agreed, a 58 year old Studebaker, that looks Sleek, Beautiful and MODERN.
The Avanti was ahead of it time.
Raymond Lowey designed what one sees, and he was an amazing designer. Also did the very famous GG1 locomotive. But the engineers did a great job too!
