Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #6 Wheeler Farmway Bridge #1 in Queens 1/19/16
When the 48 miles of the Motor Parkway were completed in 1926, a total of 60 bridges had been built over and under the parkway. Most of the bridges were used to avoid intersections of major roads. The Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #1 North Hempstead Turnpike Bridge in Fresh Meadows
One of the important pioneering features of the Long Island Motor Parkway was the first construction of bridges associated with an automobile road to eliminate grade crossings. A total of at least 65 bridges were built for the Motor Parkway from 1908 to 1926 over crossroads (designated a parkway bridge), under crossroads (designated a highway bridge), and, as part of right-of-way agreements, to connect farmlands (deisgnated a farmway bridge).

A Map of the Long Island Motor Parkway & Queens Historical Sites

Video “The Queens Motor Parkway Bike Path”
Nycbikemaps has posted this 2009 five-minute video of the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway bike path including a good portion of the Motor Parkway in Fresh Meadows. The 20-minute bike ride was played back at 4 times the speed. As a result, you can visualize what it was like to ride on this section of the Motor Parkway at around 40 miles per hour.
