Kleiner’s Korner: From the Helck Family Collection: Al Poole Wins at Brighton Beach in 1910 with a Little Known Mechanic
Al Poole drove a Simplex to the winner's circle at Brighton Beach, New York in May of 1910. With co-driver Charles Basle they completed the 24-hour battle with 1,145 miles accumulated.

Kleiner’s Korner: “Good Roads Magazine” - Motor Parkway Construction Details
"Good Roads Magazine" began publishing in the 1890s and advocated for better roads and highways, initially for bicyclists and then for automobilists. Early on it was the official organ of the League of American Wheelmen. Issues in 1908 described the construction details of the Motor Parkway including banked roads, the clearing of trees with dynamite and reinforcement of the roadbed.

Part IV in the map series includes maps primarily published in the touring guides of the Automobile Club of America (ACA). The ACA's publications were first named The Club Journal (approx. 1919+) and later Motor Travel (approx. 1916+).

The Motor Parkway was used by product manufacturers and engineers to test their products under true road like conditions. Many were related to safety devices and gasoline efficiency with results reported in various trade publications.

Kleiner’s Korner: The Motor Parkway Bridges & the Nassau County Board of Supervisors in 1907 & 1908
Long Island Motor Parkway General Manager Arthur Pardington petitioned the Nassau County Board of Supervisors in 1907 and 1908 to gain approval to construct bridges over and under public roads. Thanks to the records of the proceedings we can view the process undertaken.

Kleiner’s Korner: The Motor Parkway in the 1929 Graphic Regional Plan of NY and its Environs
Various uses of the The Long Island Motor Parkway were included in the 1929 NY/NJ/CT Regional Planning Committee's 400+ page report which recommended plans to spur development and limit congestion throughout the region through 1965.
