The Mustang III “Shorty’ Prototype to Attend The Bridge VII Concours in Bridgehampton This Saturday

The Bridge.

Once a famed racecourse in Bridgehampton hosting some of the highest profile racers, drivers and races, the track was closed down in the 90's and transformed into a world-class golf and country club. Paying homage to its storied automotive history, for the past 7 years The Bridge has been host to one of the most exclusive concours events in the country.

From their website;

"In 2016, Bob Rubin, Shamin Abas & Jeffrey Einhorn founded what has become one of the nation’s most original and most exclusive annual automotive events.

Taking place at the private golf club that sits on the hallowed grounds of the original Bridgehampton Race Circuit, the namesake classic car exhibition pays tribute to the historic racing that took place on the site for nearly half a century. The exhibition is primarily focused on post-war sports and competition cars that raced or would have been eligible to race at The Bridgehampton Race Circuit during its glory years. More than 200 cars of great provenance are featured every year."

In the past, The 1909 ALCO Black Beast, 1962 HolmanMoody Falcon Challenger III and '48 Tucker have had the honor of being shown at the event. This year, Saturday, September 23rd, for The Bridge Concours VII, it is the 1963 Ford Mustang III 'Shorty' Prototype's turn.

From the 60's/70's through to the track's demise, the track was always busy with weekend amateur racers. Join one of the racing bodies, pass technical inspections and bring your car on the track!

In the early 90's organizers like EMRA (Eastern Motor Racing Association) would hold their Vanderbilt Time Trials. This dash plaque was the last time I ran the course with my track-ready Porsche 944.

Early on when the time trials were named, EMRA wanted to name the trials after an important automotive race. Unfortunately for them, all race names were copyrighted, except for one, The Vanderbilt Cup Races. Hence from then forward, all EMRA time trials were known as the Vanderbilt Cup Time Trials.

So, in a way, I can claim my Porsche and I raced in the Vanderbilt Cup!
