Gram was there just a couple of weeks ago and was able to get my 1960’s Islip Speedway record signed by Marty.
Just an amazing guy. R.I.P. Marty

I am so happy I got to meet Marty.  I was going to give him a call this weekend to plan my second visit ( since during my visit in the summer, Marty told me if I came back during the fall, he could show me around the entire museum), and when Greg informed me on Monday about Marty’s passing I almost could not believe it. Rest in peace, Marty.

and thanks, Brian, I plan on posting more photos from my past visit in memory to Marty soon on my Instagram - Hotrod_Crazy

That last photo posted above of Marty that I taken a few years? ago at the L.I. Antque Power Association big weekend event, told Marty I know Howard K., he jump up on trailer on the other side of his old Ford stock car, rummaging inside finding a large photo of Joe Tracy burial headstone, “have to give this to Howard”! A later time, whe he got into a crash into a tree because of a blackout, his website saying he is recovering at home not be disturbed, well I know a gent who HAD a relationship with Marty’s oldest daughter had inform me that Marty is out in the yard raking, waiting for visitors to come. I called him, went to his place, had a nice LONG enjoyablable time with the old boy, and got souvenir vintage tickets of the Freeport stock car race.

His efforts to preserve history were outstanding. The sharing of same not hoarding the information and documents was his goal and he achieved that many times over. RIP

Many years ago I made my first visit to the Himes Museum. Marty and Reggie were wonderful in showing me around. I remember leaving with such excitement that I couldn’t wait for my next visits as there was far too much to see. My next visit was on a very hot August summer day when to my excitement I was told that it was Marty’s birthday; we’ll guess what, is was mine also. I was at Riverhead Raceway on November when it was announced that Marty had passed. Sad to know that this great man is no longer with us. I am truly honored to have spent time with Marty and Reggie.

Marty Himes was a dear, trusted friend of mine for more than 60 years.  He was a noted historian, a master storyteller, and, most of all, a man of his word.  May he rest in peace.
