Film Producer is Looking to Make Your Car A Star: Updated 3/18/2014

Producer Meg Wechter of Columbia University is looking for two "1940s European sedans" for her film "The Year I Grew an Inch" that  shoots near New York City in the middle of March.

Information on the film and Meg Wechter's contact information is below. If you have the desired car or know someone who has one, please give Meg a call.

Enjoy,

Howard Kroplick

Update 3/16/2014:

Hi Howard:

We decided to push our shoot to the beginning of May to ensure that the weather is much nicer. We were particularly concerned for the antique picture cars we'd have on set if the weather happened to still be snowy, icy or even salt still on the roads if we shot in March. Jonathan and I actually did manage to locate a black Citroen Traction Avant in original condition for our shoot through a very nice gentleman, Herb Fischman. We're thrilled about that, as it was quite the challenge to find!

One more car we're looking for is a 1940's black (or a dark color) sedan, and it could definitely be American since European cars are hard to find. Our only criteria is that the car look pretty nice, since it's supposed to be a chauffeur's car. Do you have any recommendations? The search has now opened up by quite a lot since we have already found the Citroen, so hopefully you'll be able to refer us to a 1940's black or dark color sedan.

Our new dates are Friday, May 9th - Sunday, May 18th, with two days off in there. We'd only need the car for one day at a sheep farm that we're still trying to lock down. We do have some great options for a sheep farm, so we should be locking this down within the next week or two.

Kind regards,

Meg Wechter

Hi Howard,

I hope you're doing well. Wayne Duprez highly recommended I contact you, as he thought you'd be a great resource to get in touch with being well known on Long Island.

I am producing my Columbia University masters thesis film next film, The Year I Grew an Inch, that shoots the middle of March not far from NYC. I'm contacting you to see if you know of anyone who may have a 1940's European looking sedan, maybe even a black one? I'd be happy to place a lot of calls with any leads you give me, even if it's a friend of a friend of a friend who may have such a car that would fit in with Nazi-occupied France that our story takes place. I am not familiar with cars, so your help is greatly appreciated. Searching for a car that fits this time period in Europe has been quite the challenge so far, so the director and I are hoping that you'll be able to help us.

A little about the film--

The director, Jonathan Dee, is an award winning Columbia director whose last film at Columbia, that I also helped produce, is endorsed by HBO, an adaptation from a famous Patricia Highsmith short story (Alfred Hitchcock directed her Strangers on a Train) and it stars Kristen Connelly (House of Cards, Cabin in the Woods) and Billy Magnussen (Tony nominated actor for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike starring alongside Sigourney Weaver). Our Casting Director is Matthew Maisto (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Hobbit, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close), someone who I'm sure will attract great talent as with Jonathan's last film.

We're filming at the beautiful Alder Manor, about 20 to 30 minutes from NYC. (Feel free to take a look at the link below for photos of Alder Manor.) It's gorgeous and definitely fits in with the French chateau look with a worn, war time feel. Our story takes place in Nazi-occupied France in the 1940's. http://www.scoutingny.com/tag/alder-manor/.

Having 1940's European cars in our film would truly bring our story to life. Ideally we'd love to find two, if possible, and we'd only need the cars on set for one full day, and then half a day around the third week of March. Jonathan and I are truly looking for a passionate car collector who would enjoy showcasing their gorgeous cars in a prestigious Columbia short film destined to be screened at the top film festivals around the world. Our film is going to premiere at the renowned Lincoln Center in May 2015.

Your help is greatly appreciated, thank you! Feel free to call or e-mail me anytime to discuss further.

Kind regards,
