The Mercedes 540 K, of which 409 were built between1936 to 1939, represented the pinnacle of automotive design at that time. Today, this car has become the dream of every collector.

Daimler-Benz granted a special license to specialty designer/fabricator Franco Sbarro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sbarro_ (automobile) to create eight reproductions of this grand automobile. The quality and construction is such that Daimler-Benz gave Sbarro permission to use the official Mercedes star, and to present the car as a Mercedes.  It is a rare privilege that says a lot about the exceptional quality and high standard of the car.

Examine the interior. If there were not the Sbarro logo in the center of the wheel, few people would be able to differentiate it from the original. All instrumentation has been reproduced by specialists in precision engineering.
 

Attention to detail led Sbarro to search out the original tools for the manufacture of the headlights. These materials and tools are used today in the restoration of original 540 K headlamps

Mechanical elements are modern. To remain faithful to the brand and to maintain authenticity, the engine comes from a Mercedes 500 SE. It is a V8 developing approximately 260 horsepower. The chassis incorporates elements from the 300 SEL 6.3 and the S Class sedans. The body is carefully fabricated fibreglass. The black hood or canvass top is electrically operated.  Bumpers are hand-crafted aluminum, saving some 200 pounds over the originals.  Wire wheels.

Performance is high: 135 mph or about 25 mph faster than the original. Mercedes disc brakes and automatic transmission.   But to respect the spirit of the 540K, the gear lever is a faithful copy of the original car.

Eight Sbarro 540Ks were built from 1981 to 1985. The buyer will have one of the most beautiful cars built by Franco Sbarro. Not only is the car superb, but also the production quality is amazing. This car is painted in Midnight Black with a deep burgundy leather interior.

This car, Number 3 of a lot of eight, is in the hands of its second owner.  Meticulously maintained, and always garaged, there are a total of 05845 km on the odometer.
