From Old 16 Locomobile: The 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race Winner

I hope I can get to the Fairfield Concours next year with my 1951 Jowett Jupiter. It is #100 of 899 that were built. Jupiters were raced at the 24 hours of Le Mans, winning the 1,500cc class in 1950, ‘51 and ‘52. Jowett Cars Ltd. went out of business in 1954.

I graduated from Roger Ludlow High School in Fairfield in 1947. We had our 60th reunion last year. I also worked one summer as a busboy at the Spinning Wheel restaurant which, if I remember correctly, was in either Westport or Southport.

  Hello.
  A few questions: 1)is there a difference between the “LIMP right- of -way” and the roadbed itself??..are you distinguishing between the two surfaces, if in fact, there are two???...or is the ROW merely the land on which the LIMP’s former surface ran??
  2)if one travels west on 74th street where are the next concrete pillars able to be seen——a)in the parking lot of LIJ….in the woods on the south side of the GCP….on the hill behind the Lake Success Jewish Center????...any idea…Thanks for your help.

The Motor Parkway Trail would only be on public land and roads. For the most part, it is still possible to connect the LIMP right-of-way from Eisenhower Park in East Meadow to Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale.

Agree. The remains of the Motor Parkway ends on the ramp west of Winchester Boulevard and can not be seen until the parking lots of Long Island Jewish Hospital that border on the old Glen Oaks Country Club.

Upon driving on Jericho tpk I spotted an old black car in a repair shop with an unusual space between the engine and rear end.  I was unaware that you had a problem but stuff happens when you use an old machine and dont just park it and look at it.  I hope that the stay in the auto hospital is not a long one. I talked with one of those working on it, knew his father, and it appears you brought it to the right place.  Best of luck.

Hi Howard : I have enjoyed the book and the postings on this site . I have two questions for you . First, I think the photo of the Great Neck Lodge is terrific, but I cannot get oriented . From where was the photo taken, and is the LIMP to right of the lodge in the photo ? Also, where would Lakeville Road be in relation to the lodge as shown in the photo, and where would the LIMP bridge over Lakeville Road be situated ? Second, you mentioned, in response to a different question from someone else, that “ruins” of the LIMP exist on the grounds of the farmhouse west of Little Neck Parkway . I have searched that area exhaustively, but have not found any evidence of the LIMP on that property or at any other site on the land between Little Neck Parkway and Commonwealth Blvd . Would you be so kind as to direct me to the location of those ruins ? Thanks and regards, Neal Baker
