Thumbs up to the start of an amazing auto adventure from Gram and James. Document as much as possible. This is invaluable automotive and Long Island history in the making.

From Ellen R:
“I wanted to thank you for arranging the opportunity to visit the section of motor parkway.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon meeting others of the group in a more informal setting and meeting the homeowners.  They were very gracious to open their home to us and offer refreshments.  It was a pleasure to meet and chat with the members of the family.  A thank you to you and to the homeowners. “

Before we moved to Woodstock, NY in 1969, I remember seeing a 1934 Ford Brewster around in Southampton, NY. As I recall, It was a greyish tan with beautiful custom woodwork inside the rear passenger area. It was in excellent shape. Perhaps it’s still there. I haven’t been back since moving from Long Island. Has anyone seen it?

A great big thanks to our hosts Carmine and Arlene and their family in showing us how much fun it is to have a piece of history in their own backyard. Their hospitality was so refreshing. Thanks to Howard for sharing his own take with his Alco, as well as Bruce and Mark with their A’s. From what I can see only Bruce had the EZ pass so Howard and Mark still owe a toll for their usage if LIMP.  It was a super day!!!

I have a photo of a car on the brickyard track that seems to date 1939 - 1940 looks very similar to the Maserati pictured above with one exception it has two rear axles for a total of four rear wheels? and appears to be #19,  can you shed any light on this car or race?

From Dave B:

Came across your web site by accident the other day…. Really enjoyed it, the videos and info are wonderful…. More so being an Ex-Long Islander (Now 49) who remembers going to the LI auto Museum in the late 60’s I think it was, in a elementary school trip from Port Jefferson Station where I grew up… I still have the few postcards I bought as a kid there…
Anyway I thought you might like to see this and find it interesting, even though it is already sold…. Not sure just how rare it is, or if you ever heard of a person “Norris” working there….

I now live in Boca Raton, FL. and get to deal with some antique cars…... I service / rebuild many automotive electronic / electrical equipment from modern cars to antique (domestic and foreign) for many auto shops around the SE FL area… Tube radio repair and conversion thru the modern ones and engine computers, dash clusters, ABS modules and just about any electronic module worth repairing….

Work closely with some of the restoration shops around here Palm Beach Garage, Foreign Cars of Boca, Vantage Motor Works, ect…

Just rebuilt a 1990 Jaguar V12 fuel injection computer for the restoration shop here in Boca last week and they have a beautiful red 1929 Dusenberg convertible in the shop that was idling smooth as silk…. It’s nice to get to see these things up close and some times repair some thing electical on them as part of my way of making money these days…. Use to work on L.I. in the defense electronics R&D and manufacturing industry but all that has changed and it’s a very unstable industry fo I left it behind and was always into radio equipment old and new since I was a kid of about 11 years old (ham radio and HiFi).....

I have 2 or 3 mid or late 1930’s Packard radio receivers (no control heads and not restored) that I am looking to sell if you know anyone needing them….

I thoroughly enjoy the articles on these one of a kind classical autos. Also the old parkway and races.

Bullitt also has one of the best soundtracks ever…by the famous Lalo Schifrin. Consider it a prelude to his work on Dirty Harry. BUT…the ultimate genius of both Schifrin and McQueen is the subtle fact that the entire car chase is witnessed without any hint of music other than the sound of the cars.

Still love it! The BluRay edition is worth adding to your collection.
How many ‘67 ‘Stangs were built for “Bullitt”? How many oil pans were sheared off??!?

These padded top conversions were not that uncommon in the early post depression era. Derham did many of them. At one point in 1938 or 39 Bob Gregorie did one about like this in the Ford styling department for Edsel Ford. Edsel drove it home for a week or so, thought it was an interesting idea. He returned to Ford Engineering and they gave it away.

Inskip was still doing re-bodying of prewar Rolls Royces into the 1950 at their body shop. Many of these cars have survived.

From Tom C:

Your website is absolutely terrific!

Thanks for including me.

Even though I haven’t lived on Long Island for 27 years, I still love the place and appreciate it’s place in auto racing history.

I saw my first race at Islip Speedway as a Cub Scout.

Thank you.  I look forward to reading more.
