Almost didn’t get this. Glen Oaks Village apts looking NE, and the LIMP at the Little Neck Parkway Bridge. Admiring all the open space! Historic Queens County Farm Museum to the north on Little Neck Pkwy. I’m guessing the 40’s based on the vehicles in the construction pics. The diagonal tree lined dirt road is Shiloh Ave and was just truncated to make room for the apartments. Union Tpke and Commonwealth Blvd are in the construction pics. I recently biked through these apartments and recognized the oval shaped street in the construction pic.

Hi Howard, I saw you and The Black Beast at the Heckscher Museum earlier this spring while the Discovery Channel were filming you that day and all that week! You gave me a tour a couple of times around the circular path that day while they were filming us go around, something I will always remember! Do you know when to expect that show to come out and will it be available on DVD? Thanks, Greg Tsistinas

“Hi Howard, The first 1928 Model A built, a 2 dr sedan was given to Thomas Edison by Henry Ford. He wanted to use it at his Florida home and sent it back to Dearborn where a 4 dr Touring body was installed. It is still at his estate and lab museum near Naples along with his son-in-laws Brewster Ford town car. Hugh”

Leave it to my fellow cartography enthusiast Steve to come up with an awesome aerial! But, being the like-minded, quirky cartography enthusiast that I am, I was able to come up with it pretty quickly!
-Identify this section of the Long Island Motor Parkway
Immediately East of Commonwealth Blvd through Glen Oaks, Queens.
-Which Motor Parkway Bridge is in the aerial?
The LIMP parkway bridge is going over Little Neck Pkwy. (additionally, the photo is post-1942 when the trestle was taken down)
-What buildings are under construction?
The beginning of the construction for the complex known as Glen Oaks Village, located at the N.E. corner of Commonwealth and Union Tpke. In the center of the construction, you can make out the eventual ring of 77th Crescent and 76th Ave. The larger portion of the Glen Oaks Village complex on the East side of Little Neck Pkwy has yet to be begun…
-Approximately what year was the aerial taken?
To be exact on when the aerial was taken, Glen Oaks Village was constructed in 1947.
- What other major roads are in the aerial?
It looks like you may have cropped Steve’s photo a bit, but Union Tpke runs along the bottom of the new construction, Commonwealth Blvd along the Western side, and Little Neck Rd (later Pkwy) a little further on the Eastern side. The dirt road leading away from the construction towards Little Neck Pkwy will become Shiloh Ave.
-What other historic structure is in the aerial?
The Queens County Farm Museum

Howard, I thought that it was still on display at the Heritage Museum and Gardens up in Sandwich Mass. If not, then I am certain Randy Emma knows of its location…

Hello Howard,
I believe Gary Cooper’s yellow & green Duesenberg is currently on display at the Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich, MA. Looks like a good place for a LIMPPS meeting.

I am Roz Kroplick’s first cousin (our mothers were sisters), and David Wasserman’s grandson, Gabe Wasserman, is married to my daughter, Kim Green. (They live in San Francisco and have two wonderful children). Gabe inherited some beautiful pieces of “tin can art” after his grandfather died in 1999, and they’re on the walls in their house. I never fail to marvel at the beauty and whimsical nature of David W.‘s artwork. I heartily recommend that viewers go to the http://www.tincanman.net/ website to view David W.‘s beautiful artwork, which is timeless and inspiring. . . . . . . . . .

“Hilarious picture! Hadn’t a clue but the search on this one was easy. From the 1930 movie Hog Wild, they managed to nicely crunch what looks like a mini version of a Ford Model T? (the wheels are too small). Model T’s were often used in Laurel and Hardy movies. The car is on display in the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. Check out the pictures. Cheers.

The Lane Museum is a wonderful collection of unusual cars that should be visited by every automobile enthusiast. I have a special affection for the Tatra display because my family had a T-600 Tatraplan in the late 50’s, early 60’s. It was a very unusal car to have in San Diego, California at that time. We used it as a family car and I even took my date to the Senior Prom in it. Tatras were very high quality cars that would compare with Mercedes of the period. Do not miss the Lane Museum if you’re in Nashville.
