Sunday’s hill climb most have been exciting,it looked like you had no problem with it,you were going at a pretty good clip from what I see in the video,having a blast,all smiles,can’t wait to see the rest of it

My first time at this event and it was lots of fun. I had total confidence that the Black Beast would make the top of the hill. It was interesting to see the nervous faces on some of the drivers as they started up the hill. Everyone attending had a great time. Nice to see you again Howard and congratulations on getting to the top!

Ted: Soon after the right curve in the mystery photo, is where the new Eisenhower Park bike path begins. Thanks to you, your updates and photos of the path have been very informative. That pilot path will be the one where future paths will connect to and follow the LIMP right of way throughout. I’m looking forward for that day….....

On the photo we’re looking east and we can see the Meadowbrook bridge in the foreground, followed by the Stewart Avenue bridge in the background on the right. On the left in the background the Ladenburg windmill can be seen. Also on the left in the foreground some kind of house or shed is visible, possibly belonging to the Ladenburg property.
The photo must have been taken in the fall of 1908 during the construction of the Motor Parkway, because no fencing is present yet along the sides of the bridge.

What was the approximate date of the photo? circa 1908, but prior to the Motor Parkway having been opened.

I think your looking west towards the Carmen Ave bridge.The windmill in the is on the Boelsen Farm in Westbury .The road looks like its still being constructed so it could be dated 1907 -1908

Instant recognition as Roslyn Lodge looking east from LIRR Oyster Bay line bridge, with Iselin’s mill and farm at left ca. 1911 but, on second look, I’m not so sure now. I won’t cheat and look at Al’s book (not yet). Sam, III

There is NO WAY that 1938 Jaguar Graber Coupe is an SS 100! From what little I can see it’s a 2½ or 3½ litre SS One Jaguar. SS 100s have a low/squat radiator/bonnet, almost square in front view, and this car has the tall front of a standard-height SS One or Two Jaguar. I found ¾ and side views of the Graber to confirm this; it’s almost certainly built-up from a stock 3½-litre SS One Drophead Coupé, with a saloon or Mk V windscreen. Regardless, it’s no SS 100! I worked in that building on Ruland Road that the bridge/parkway is shown as crossing through. Funny but, I walked into that building every day not knowing I was following the path of motorists of the past!

It looks to be the present day Salisbury Pk. Dr. looking south just before the Stewart Ave. fork in present day Salisbury section of Westbury. A good landmark is the Ladenberg Estate’s windmill to the left. Further ahead in the distance you can see the original east/west LIRR overpass which passed through present day Eisenhower Pk. My best guesstimate would be around the time of 1905 VCR…?

This photo is very early, 1908-1909, while the LIMP was still paving with only concrete, before blacktop was used to cover it. I would tend to think it is one of the more original sections, from Round Swamp to Levittown. I will explore more, and make my guess.

This appears to be looking east between Merrick Avenue and Newbridge Avenue in East Meadow with the parkway bridge over Newbridge Ave. (Bellmore Road) in the center. Further east we see the highway bridge under Stewart Avenue. The windmill on the Ladenburg property can also be seen. The photo was probably taken in September, 1908 since the guard rails on the bridge have not been installed yet and I think I see the Buick on the bridge which was used by the photographer who took many photos at this time.

Howard, right in your old backyard. “Meadowbrook” at Newbridge Avenue/Meadobrook Road in Westbury (East Meadow) at Eisenhower Park. The background trees were on Mrs. Ladenberg’s estate, as well as the windmill seen in the left background as you look southeast in 1908.
