Treasures of the Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Long Island Motor Parkway

In celebration of the first road built exclusively for automobiles, historian Howard Kroplick will present a review of the historic Vanderbilt Cup Races and the Long Island Motor Parkway with a special focus on its impact on Queens County. The presentation will feature rare photos of Queens and films of the Vanderbilt up Races.

Howard Kroplick, Town Historian of North Hempstead, is co-author with Al Velocci of the book The Long Island Motor Parkway and author of Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island. Following the presentation, Howard will be signing his three books on Long Island history including the recently published Arcadia book North Hempstead.

The presentation will be held at The Douglaston Club, 600 West Drive, Douglaston on Saturday, April 25, 2015. A brunch will be available from noon to 2:00 pm  ($32.95 payable to The Douglaston Club in advance or at the door) with the presentation beginning at 2:00 pm. The meeting is open to the public.

This promises to be an exciting afternoon for fans of Long Island automotive and Queens’ history. The program is sponsored by the Douglaston & Little Neck Historical Society (DLNHS).
