Kleiner’s Korner: UPDATE - Levittown Motor Parkway Site Being Excavated
As mentioned in my comments on a recent post, the Motor Parkway site between Heron and Skimmer Lanes in Levittown is being developed into a private road with 9 homes being built. Excavation has begun with pieces of the Parkway having been found.

Kleiner’s Korner: “Good Roads Magazine” - Motor Parkway Construction Details
"Good Roads Magazine" began publishing in the 1890s and advocated for better roads and highways, initially for bicyclists and then for automobilists. Early on it was the official organ of the League of American Wheelmen. Issues in 1908 described the construction details of the Motor Parkway including banked roads, the clearing of trees with dynamite and reinforcement of the roadbed.

Before a standing-room group of residents and several members of the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society, the Town Board of Hempstead unanimously denied a petition to rezone a Levittown property for two-story 46-unit condos on the site of the Vanderbilt Cup Races' grandstands and press box from 1908 to 1910.

The Board of Appeals for the Town of Hempstead will be holding a public hearing on Wednesday concerning a petition from Crocus Lane Estates and Josato to rezone Levittown property on the former location of the Long Island Motor Parkway and Vanderbilt Cup Race grandstand and press box.
