The six Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island from 1904 to 1910 were the greatest sporting events of their day, and the first international automobile road races held in the United States. The races had a far-reaching impact on the development of American automobiles and parkways. This site provides comprehensive information on the races, the Long Island Motor Parkway and current Long Island automotive events, car shows and news.

I went to this special event on that Sat. my fist and last time at Carlisle. My favorite vintage car is a ‘48 Chrsler New Yorker sedan, and other reasons, and my guy Howard was there along with Dave Baum with the Chrysler’s Chrysler 1st. car by the entrance. Both sweating it out, the AC not working! On display was two Chrysler Gas Turbines of 1963. was showing off front and rear of a Ford Concept car in 1958 that Elwood P. Engel formerly of Lincohn/Murcury was hired by Chrysler to be head of Chrysler design Nov. ‘61. his first project were those Gas Turbine Cars, note the front and rear with T-Bird roof.

All amazing cars in pristine condition still today in 2025. Extraordinary work by Steve Babinsky’s auto restorations on the Chrysler’s Chrysler after sitting decades in undesirable conditions.

I was 16 y/o in ‘64 and was able to take my bike to the ‘64-‘65 World’s Fair plenty of times. I saw the Chrysler turbine on demonstration; we thought the engine was like a jet engine. The car was demonstrated in what was a “bobsled” type pit; it “whooshed” around as we looked down from above the pit. The future, however, turned out to be different.
