Loved reading this. Sure hope the “whereabouts unknown” cars are somewhere safe and are being well cared for.

Looking forward to this event. It’s also a good reason for Art Kleiner to return to Long Island for a visit.

Do you know more about the original Takapausha Museum building? Was it a residents prior? Age? Actual original address? Thanks. Great job.

Thanks Frank!  Here’s some more info on “Painless Parker” if any one is interested.  And next time you visit the dentist, beware! lol

Great research Art, appears Parker performed his own extractions. Steve, I can still hear the screams today echoing throughout the Appalachian valleys ;D

NE corner of Jericho Tpke and Willis Av in Mineola, 136 Jericho Tpke- building still stands today as Atlantic Travel agency. Photo is looking NNE. 1906 VCR. Makes sense this structure served as a race team headquarters as was Krugs corner just across the street.

Thanks, David.  Sounds like it would have been on the Santini Sub-Base.

To:  Lee Chambers,  There was an article somewhere on this site that records the account of the keepers of the Motor Parkway toll lodge at the “Meadowbrook” entrance near Merrick ave.  The child of the family somehow interacted with a German pow at a camp south of Hempstead turnpike but just west of Merrick ave, near where Kellenberg high school is today.

The Maxwell team used that house for its headquarters during the 1906 American Elimination Trial race. Based on another post from some years ago, it was located on Jericho Turnpike near Roslyn Road in Mineola. Looks like everyone is wearing a hat or cap so the correct answer should be “none”. Painless Parker was an itinerant dentist who travelled with a band to attract customers. He would perform so-called “painless” tooth extractions while the band played loudly to drown out the patient’s scream.

That beautiful blond as Barbie is perfect, but the pink Muntz Jet is wrong, in the movie a pink ‘56-‘57 Corvette is the car with rear seat that never was for Ken.

I have a friend who lived on the Tiffany Estate from 1947-1953. Her father and his partner bought 50 acres which included the mansion, stables, chapel and art gallery. They lived in the art gallery and sold the mansion and stables. She said the chapel was locked up and it’s unclear to me what the deal was with that- I know it’s in a museum now.

We can’t find any documentation of this sale, but I’m guessing they bought it from the Tiffany Foundation? I’ve been researching this time period and have found precious little. I contacted the Foundation but haven’t heard back.

If anyone has any information or can advise me on who to contact, I’d appreciate it! I found it all very fascinating.

Thanks!

The first 3 photos of NSP most likely taken in 1931 as the cars shown were no later than that date. The last photo taken in the snow about late 1930s has cars appears to be about mid or late 30s.
