Mystery Foto #34… The location of the photographer is on the LIRR bridge in Floral Park, facing west. This shot was taken during the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race. The race car is a 60hp Mercedes driven by William Luttgen. As for the mechanician, possibly a Mr. Pfeiffer.

Seems PB is turning out to be great fun   Look forward to hearing about the drive and how 1044 peerformed. vs the other Tuckers.  ..Wonder too about the significance of the numbers e.g.  does the owner of Tucker number 1008 have more prestige than owner number 1009 if I may ask.  Enjoy yourself!  .

Howard, best of luck at Pebble Beach, I can wait to see 1044 in person. A better honor couldn’t happen to a better keeper of automotive history. Enjoy the trip! I hope to attend this show some day as spectator, it’s on my bucket list!
All the best !

Anyone in the know - Was the Salisbury Country Club along Merrick Ave. and adjacent to the train station part of the golf course proper?

Or was it an independent entity that happened to be right across the street?

Sam,

If the green structure were stables, any guess what the cluster of buildings in yellow was used for?

1904.  Jericho Tpke heading east.  Tulip Ave branches off south.  The photographer is most likely on the embankment of the LIRR trestle over Jericho Tpke.

During the first week of this month, I visited the AACA museum in Hershey, PA to see the special Mustang exhibit. Howard’s Mustang III was glowing under the museum lights, and seeing it there was like seeing an old friend in a different place. I also very much enjoyed the exhibit from the International Thunderbird Club as well as the rest of this fine museum, which I had not visited in at least ten years. As you can probably tell, yeah, I’m a FORD guy.
As per a recommendation from Howard, while traveling back home on Interstate 78 towards New York we stopped at the America On Wheels museum in Allentown, PA. It was there that I was able to renew my friendship with the original Mustang II prototype, a car I hadn’t seen since I was a kid. Man, you really appreciate these types of vehicles much more as an adult, and in a different light, rather than when first viewed as an awe struck kid! A good portion of our time there was spent walking around and photographing the Mustang II. The docent was very patient with us and allowed us to linger a bit more than the usual museum patron may have.
Wanted to mention here that I was surprised not to see the Mustang I or Mustang II on the list of Mustangs that helped to shape the 10 millionth version of FORD’s iconic pony car. Just my opinion, of course, as lists are what they are.
Thanks to Howard for the heads up about the Mustang II, that definitely enhanced our trip from the south shore of Long Island into Pennsylvania that day! My brother, a friend, and myself left LI just after 5 am and returned home at about 6 pm, so it was a bit of driving for me, but well worth the experience.

Thanks again to Howard, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the car shows for the rest of this summer. Enjoy!—Ernie :>)

Lee - your Green Unknown Structure sure looks like a stable to me; there are a number iof similar such along the Gold Coast.  Frank - look again; up close - that is a horse and rider/jockey at upper right as clearly shown by its/their shadow at lower left (Howard can post an extreme blow-up or I can send one).  All - sorry if I scrambled Meadow Brook and Salisbury Plains - someone please enlighten me.  Sam, III

Lee - Fantastic photo submission. Thank you! It appears the fire hydrant by the Salisbury Plains station is the same as the ‘74 photo posted on Sam Berliner’s website (courtesy Art Huneke). The distance in between is the same.

Sam - Previously, I was unable to form a shape for the object(s) by the grandstand. At first I thought birds, but their size were too large in comparison to the grandstand seating. Horses now sounds more likely, two heading north with their necks casting shadows pointing to the west. Nice catch! Free, runaway horses on the spacious field, how lucky they were.
