They are both 1935 Duesenbergs. The one on the left is a model SJ nicknamed the “Mormon Meteor” once owned by Ab Jenkins who set many speed records with it on the Bonneville salt flats. The other is a model SSJ once owned by Gary Cooper. The SJ won “Best In Show” at Pebble Beach in 2007. I think they both set sales records when they were sold at auction at various times. Both of them may have been owned by Briggs Cunningham when the photo was taken. Just a guess but the location resembles the back of the Long Island Automotive Museum around 1953.

Congratulations Howard, I watched the entire 3 and a half hour broadcast of the show in the hopes of seeing you receive an award unfortunately they didn’t broadcast it. They did however show a glimpse of you and your team in the first few minutes of the broadcast driving the car. Anyway, congratulations! Pebble Beach had to have been an amazing experience. I can’t wait to see the car back home on Long Island.

Absolutely awesome showing.  I can’t imagine how proud you are of your car and it’s impressive and accurate restoration.  You made a lot of Tucker fans happy with your handling of 1044.  Thank You.

Just noticed the background of the “Team” photo (beware men with beards!); sure looks like one of only 35 Packard Darrin convertible Victorias built from 1937 to 1942 at the right.  That’s even rarer than the Tuckers!  Heady company, indeed.  Sam, III

The capture of those Tuckers meeting is as close to a time machine as possible, in full color! Nice work by all!

Just two years later, the grandstands would be expanded covering most of the field. Sending attachment

I forgot to note that “sparsely settled” Hoffman Boulevard north of Hillside Avenue is today’s Queens Boulevard, possibly in the vicinity of Kew Gardens/Jamaica.  My father used Queens Blvd. a lot in the late ‘30s-early ‘40s and it actually was still rather sparsely settled, incredible as that may seem today.  Sam (SO old), III

Update #1: The orientation of the photographer (looking west) was corrected.

To the left of this photo unseen is another grandstand equal in size, about 700 ft across the other side of the field. The three small buildings north of the grandstand shown could be a strategic location for all spectators to use. Are those two antennas in the rear of the white roofs in 1924? Perhaps his/hers restrooms with food in the center

Hmm, the orientation is puzzling. Photographer facing east is debatable. Although the race car’s shadow appears to cast on the left side of the racer (photo facing east), Jericho Tpke westbound today still curves to the right, just like the mystery photo. Eastbound today, the tpke is still perfectly straight.

Art - Great news clips of the racers vs police/courts. I was unaware how strict road-use was being enforced, especially during these early years of the auto. But it all makes sense. I’ve read many pedestrians were hurt/killed during this early period, prompting the use of the traffic signal, still nowhere in sight anytime soon.

Frank, great catch. The orientation is looking west.

Whoops, Lee; that’s NOT the MB clubhouse in the Plymouth ad - one less story and the fan window is too close to the door lintel (plus wrong roofline).  {My, how these threads grow - just great!]  Sam, III
