    From the Drennan Collection: The 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race Awards Ceremony

    Yesterday, I described the discovery of a treasure box of Long Island auto racing photos by the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Among the events covered by photographer John Drennan was the awards ceremony for the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race winner Tazio Nuvolari. I believe these photos have never been previously published .

    Last month I spent a day exploring the photo archives of the Nassau County Division of Museum Services. These 12 photos were taken at the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Race held at the new Roosevelt Raceway in Westbury.

    Never Before Published Vanderbilt Cup Race Photos from a 1904 A.L.A.M. Scrapbook

    On Friday, October 7, 1904, the day before the first Vanderbilt Cup Race, superintendents and engineers of the Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers (A.L.A.M.) gathered for a 65-mile "meet" covering Manhattan, Bronx and Westchester. At 10:00 AM, 17 cars lined up in front of the Locomobile headquarters, at 76 Street and Broadway in Manhattan.     Five More Vanderbilt Cup Race Photos from the Pickering Collection

    As discussed this week, on Wednesday I met with Catherine Pickering, the granddaughter of William Pickering, one of Long Island's first photographers. Our examination of her grandfather's photo collection revealed several Vanderbilt Cup Race photos, many never published before.     Three More Spectacular 1904 Photos

    I am posting three more previously unpublished 1904 photos from a scrapbook album which I recently acquired. The above photo is probably the sharpest image ever shown of the spectators at the Westbury grandstand at the first interrnational raod race held in the United States.

    Rare Photos of the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race Discovered

    I recently acquired a 1904 scrapbook of 65 never-before published photos including 15 amazing images of the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race. The most significant photo in the scrapbook is the only known documentation of the difficulties of #10 Fiat driven by Paul Sartori and owned by Willie K's cousin Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt at the start of race.
