From the NYC Municipal Archives: Images from the Motor Parkway and the 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Race
Last month the New York City Municipal Archives released a database of over 870,000 photos from their collection of 2.2 million images of New York throughout the 20th century. I found seven photos related to the Long Island Motor Parkway and the Vanderbilt Cup Races.

Then & Now: Krug’s Corner in Mineola
Krug's Hotel, on the north-west corner of Jericho Turnpike and Willis Avenue in Mineola, was a favorite viewing site for the 1904, 1905 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races. This Then & Now look found a rarity- A building on the Vanderbilt Cup Race course that is still standing!

Views from the Pits of the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race
One innovation of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race was the first use of service racing pits in an American automobile race.The 1908 rules allowed only the driver and mechanician to work on the car. However, the rules were modified in 1910 to allow two of the pit crew to replenish water, oil and fuel and to assist in replacing tires.
