Historian, publisher and musician Sheri Mignano Crawford recently discovered the role of a Vanderbilt Cup Race driver in developing a planned "city" south of Hicksville and less than one mile from the Motor Parkway. (11 comments)

Aerial advertising kites flying near the 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race grandstand
When thousands of spectators arrived at the start of the 1909 Vanderbilt Cup Race, they were amazed to view over 20 advertising kites flying 25-50 feet near the grandstand. These aerial advertising kites and banners are documented in the Lazarnick Collection of the Detroit Public Library. (6 comments)
