An Alco Racer and its Infamous Owner- Grover Cleveland Bergdoll
In addition to the Alco-6 Black Beast Racer, the American Locomotive Company built at least three other race cars including an Alco Racer owned by Grover Cleveland Bergdoll (1893-1966). In this photo taken by Nathan Lazarnick, Bergdoll appears to be working on the removable rim of his Alco. (0 comments)

Update on Second Annual Vanderbilt Autocross and Concours on Sunday, July 26th
The Second Annual Vanderbilt Autocross and Concours will once again be held at Roosevelt Field on Sunday, July 26th. The planned course is expected to be larger and even more exciting than 2008. The restored Alco-6 Black Beast Racer, winner of the 1909 and 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Races, will participate and run again on Long Island for the first time in 99 years. The Drop Box Mystery at The Henry Ford
Leslie Mio, Assistant Registrar at The Henry Ford, recently sent this email to me: "I am working on cataloging a sealed brass box. According to the donors (the Long Island Automobile Club), "These boxes . . . were used for signatures, so that Gentlemen Drivers, could not substitute Professional Drivers, in the Vanderbilt Cup Races." [letter to Henry Ford from Joseph F. Cox, Welfare Director, Long Island Automobile Club, dated January 15, 1936]. However, it seems more likely to be the drop box… (0 comments)

Alco-6 Racer Captures a “Most Outstanding” Award at the Greenwich Concours D’Elegance
It was a wonderful time today at the Greenwich Concours. Thousands turned out to view over 150 spectacular American cars. It was a lot fun discussing the Alco-6 Black Beast Racer for six hours with so many people. (5 comments)

Today, the Alco-6 Black Beast Racer will appear at the Greenwich Concoursfrom 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This Alco-6 brochure has been prepared for the Concours including; the car's specifications, a 1996 article from the Autoweek, a summary of its racing history and a 1910 American Locomotive Company ad.
