Film “Alco Cars 1908-1913”
From 1908-1913, the American Locomotive Company built 5,000 Alco cars in Providence Rhode Island. This three-minute film documents 22 models manufactured during this six-year period. Only 12 Alcos are known to exist today including the 1909 Alco-6 Black Beast Racer. (0 comments)

Three More Spectacular 1904 Photos

Rare Photos of the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race Discovered
I recently acquired a 1904 scrapbook of 65 never-before published photos including 15 amazing images of the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race. The most significant photo in the scrapbook is the only known documentation of the difficulties of #10 Fiat driven by Paul Sartori and owned by Willie K's cousin Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt at the start of race. In Search of “Grand Prix Motors” and Its Amazing Tow-Car
I love a good racing mystery...especially one that is not easily solved by a Google Search. To recap, last Tuesday, I posted a film of the 1951 Bridgehampton Cup Race. What captured the attention of many viewers was the unique custom tow-truck hauling a racer at the 9-second mark of the film. Yesterday, we established the racer being hauled was a Swedish EFFYH. The Twin Locomobile Vanderbilt Cup Racers
For the 1906 American Elimination Trial and the Vanderbilt Cup Race, Locomobile built two identical cars, one to race and the other, back-up. This photo is the only known evidence of the two cars together preparing for the American Elimination Trial. Note that both cars have the #12 on their radiators. (0 comments)
