    Old 16 Fun Facts from the Henry Ford Museum

    1997 Exhibit and Film “Old 16- An American Legend”

    After obtaining Old 16 from Jerry Helck in 1997, the Henry Ford Museum developed a multimedia exhibit to display the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race winner. The elaborate exhibit included a simulation of the Long Island Motor Parkway, display cases, three figures dressed in 1908 period race clothing and a 9-monitor video wall. (5 comments)

    Nunley’s Carousel and the Vanderbilt Cup Races

    For several generations of children on Long Island, a fond memory was riding Nunley's Carousel on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin. Closed in 1995, Nunley's Carousel was restored and relocated to the Cradle of Aviation in East Garden City in 2009.     Then & Now: The Railroad Bridge on Ellison Road in Westbury

    One of the most spectacular vantage points of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race course was the Long Island Rail Road Bridge on Ellison Road in Westbury. Drivers mounting the sharp grade of the bridge would often find the wheels of their cars lifting off the road as if they were about to launch into flight.
