Going west to east, the ninth Motor Parkway toll collection structure was the Meadow Brook Lodge located west of Merrick Avenue in Westbury.

Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series #33: The “Roosevelt Field” Motor Parkway Bridge in Westbury
The 33rd bridge in the series documenting the 60 bridges built by the Long Island Motor Parkway is the highway bridge that eventually connected Stewart Avenue to Roosevelt Field.

Starting Lineup: The 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race
Eighteen racers participated in the first Vanderbilt Cup Race held on October 8, 1904. Photos of 17 of the 18 entrants at the Westbury starting line on Jericho Turnpike are shown here for the first time. The #10 Fiat arrived late at the starting line and began with a running start.

Midget Auto Racing at Roosevelt Raceway in 1939
Only two major road races were ever held at the Roosevelt Raceway in Westbury- the 1936 and 1937 Vanderbilt Cup Races. As described in Joel E. Finn's book American Road Racing The 1930s, "there was no future for Roosevelt Raceway as an automobile racing facility... two strikes and out". However, this Fairchild aerial looking southeast shows that auto racing was not quite dead at Roosevelt Raceway in 1939.

Then & Now: The Vanderbilt Cup Race Grandstands & Press Boxes in Westbury
The grandstands and press/officials' box for the 1904 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races were placed at the same Westbury location on Jericho Turnpike, just west of the Powells Lane intersection. The grandstand was on the south side of Jericho Turnpike and the press/officials' box was on the north side, on property leased from the Hitchcock family.
