It was meant to be a "Corvette Killer," but Ford's accountants ordered it to be destroyed. In 1964, Ford commissioned Dearborn Steel Tubing to create the "Mustang III"—a hand-fabricated fiberglass two-seater with a shortened 90-inch wheelbase.

During the early 1960s, Ford in the USA had a traveling show called "Caravan of Stars" that went to trade fairs and similar events. This item shows the 1964 line up, which includes the 1950 Lincoln 'bubble-top' limousine used by three presidents, an endurance winning Comet and a Mercury Marauder that won the Pike's Peak challenge. There are also four "styling experimental cars" featuring such innovations as a floating instrument cluster, radar sensing for tailgaters and a private passenger…
