Kleiner’s Korner: The expenses of constructing the never built Ronkonkoma Racing Loop
As noted in a 2010 post plans were drawn up to construct a racing loop at the end of the Motor Parkway in Ronkonkoma. An estimate dated October 24, 1910, projected the cost to be $258,075.67 - a low estimate among the many alternatives provided . . .

1958-1967 tours of the Long Island Motor Parkway #6: Petit Trianon in Lake Ronkonkoma
From 1958 to 1967, unidentified couple(s) documented tours of the Motor Parkway with over 70 photos taken from the Western Terminus in Queens to the Eastern Terminus (Lake Ronkonkoma). In the sixth of the series, these photos feature the post-fire Petit Trianon located at the Eastern Terminus in Lake Ronkonkoma from 1958-1960.

1958-1967 tours of the Long Island Motor Parkway #1: Queens
From 1958 to 1967, an unidentified couple documented their tour of the Motor Parkway with over 70 photos taken from the Western Terminus in Queens to the Eastern Terminus (Lake Ronkonkoma). In the first of a new series, these ten photos feature our favorite parkway in Queens taken around 1958.

Mystery Foto #12 Solved: A View Along the 10-Mile Curve in Dix Hills & the “View” Postcard Series
To promote the restaurant/inn Petit Trianon and the Motor Parkway in 1912, Long Island Motor Parkway, Inc. hired a photographer to develop the "View Along the Long Island Motor Parkway" series. These postcards were sold at Petit Trianon. My favorite co-author Al Velocci challenged you to identify this postcard.

In 2009 I purchased 572 original Motor Parkway surveys and maps from the firm of Barrett, Bonacci and Van Weele. One of the treasures of this purchase was a 1910 "Bookmap" documenting the right-of way, the original property owners, and the corresponding survey plan #s.

Kleiner’s Kolumn: Suffolk County Acquisition of the Long Island Motor Parkway
In 1938, The Long Island Motor Parkway, Inc. deeded the roadway to Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties to use as they each saw fit. Recently obtained documents from the Suffolk County Dept. of Public Works (SCDPW) detail the agreement between William K.Vanderbilt, Jr. as President of the Corporation and the County of Suffolk.
