Following numerous accidents, the Town of Islip requested the Motor Parkway to be a good corporate citizen and correct a dangerous situation where the Parkway crossed Wheeler Road. Read Willie K's. and Arthur Pardington's response. As we know, a bridge was never built.

Kleiner’s Korner: 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race Illustrations
As he had done in 1906, Robert Edgren again portrayed the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race through his illustrations in the "New York Evening World". As sports editor, he was able to convey his view of the race (many times not very positive) through pictures and his own words.

Kleiner’s Korner: “Big George” Robertson and “Fireball” Glenn Ethridge tell their story of winning the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race
At a 1951 dinner in Philadelphia given by "Antique Automobile", Robertson and Ethridge delivered their account of winning the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race in "Old 16" 34 years earlier. With flair and adventure, the attendees got a true flavor of riding along with these racing icons.

Kleiners Korner: The 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race “Dip of Death”
One of the most dangerous parts of the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race was the "Dip of Death", located near Spinney Hill in Manhasset. Robert Edgren illustrated these dangers in the Oct. 6, 1906 edition of The NY Evening World.

Kleiner’s Korner: A U.S. Army Signal Corps (Mineola) Scrapbook
The U.S. Army Signal Corps established a base in Mineola in 1916. First Lt. P.R. Stockton (1880-1962) was stationed there as a member of the First Aero Squad and recorded his time in photographs in a scrapbook he compiled throughout his military service. The scrapbook is in the archives of the National Air and Space Museum and available on the website of the Smithsonian Institute.

Kleiner’s Korner: William Geiger’s Motor Parkway Property in Wyandanch
William Geiger owned much of the property near the Motor Parkway in Wyandanch in Suffolk County however, two of the projects relating to the Parkway never materialized, a farmway bridge and a golf course.

Kleiner’s Korner: The 1910 Buick VCR Team at Sea
Soon after the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race, the Buick team headed to Savannah, GA to participate in the Nov. 12th Grand Prize Race. The team and other auto enthusiasts returned after the race to New York on the steamship "SS City of Savannah" which featured in its on-board publication an article about the Vanderbilt Cup Race and several drivers.
