    Since 1997, the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan has been the home of Old 16, the winner of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race. Thirty-Five years earlier, Old 16 made its first appearance at Henry Ford's 1962 sports car review exhibit.

    1997 Exhibit and Film “Old 16- An American Legend”

    After obtaining Old 16 from Jerry Helck in 1997, the Henry Ford Museum developed a multimedia exhibit to display the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race winner. The elaborate exhibit included a simulation of the Long Island Motor Parkway, display cases, three figures dressed in 1908 period race clothing and a 9-monitor video wall.

    Leslie Mio, Assistant Registrar at The Henry Ford, recently sent this email to me: "I am working on cataloging a sealed brass box. According to the donors (the Long Island Automobile Club), "These boxes . . . were used for signatures, so that Gentlemen Drivers, could not substitute Professional Drivers, in the Vanderbilt Cup Races." [letter to Henry Ford from Joseph F. Cox, Welfare Director, Long Island Automobile Club, dated January 15, 1936]. However, it seems more likely to be the drop box…

    For the 58th Annual Old Car Festival held September 6th & 7th, 2008 held at the Henry Ford, Old 16 was brought out and driven for the last time before being permanently retired to static exhibit according to the Youtube description.
