Then & Now: The “Meadowbrook” Motor Parkway Bridge in East Meadow
One of the first bridges built by the Long Island Motor Parkway was captured in a 1939 aerial view in last Sunday's post. Here's a Then & Now of the curved "Meadowbrook Bridge" in East Meadow built for the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race:

A “New” Motor Parkway Map & Nassau County Historical Sites
Steven W. comments: "Do you have a road map of the full route of the Motor Parkway with surrounding residential streets? This would be highly appreciated, as I would love to see it and bike through the trails of the demolished part in Nassau County".

Rare 1930s Photos of Two Motor Parkway Bridge Accidents
The Motor Parkway bridges in Nassau County were built from 1908 to 1911. The significant growth of traffic in the 1920s and 1930s was not anticipated in the design of the bridges and the openings for roads below were very narrow, typically only 22 feet wide. As a result, multiple car accidents occurred at the Motor Parkway bridges. Photos of two of these accidents in the 1930s were documented by the omnipresent photographer John Drennan and were discovered in the archives of Nassau County…

The Bridges of the Vanderbilt Cup Races (1908-1910)
A unique feature of the last three Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island were the new Motor Parkway bridges. For the 1908 race, the course included 16 new bridges over a 9-mile parkway section from East Meadow to Bethpage.

Approaching the Merrick Avenue Bridge during the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race
Three of the 16 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race photos from the Hayden Allen Collection document the first Motor Parkway Bridge encountered by the drivers in the 1908 to 1910 races. I believe these photos are the only known images of the Merrick Avenue Bridge during the races.
