Video “The 1965 Vanderbilt Cup Race at the Bridgehampton Race Circuit”
In 1965, the USRRC (United States Road Racing Championship) brought their version of the "Vanderbilt Cup Race" to the Bridgehampton Race Circuit. As described in the offical program, the format for the race was 75 laps (213 miles) for "Appendix C and SCCA modified category cars and F.I.A. Appendix J Grand Touring Cars". The big attractions for the race were the two Chaparral entries, considered the fastest and most innovative racers of their era.

Grand Prix Motors Mystery Solved!
Last week we had a lively discussion concerning the futuristic "Grand Prix Motors" tow-car hauling its Effyh midget race car through the streets of Bridgehampton in 1951. I believe the mystery of who owned these cars has been solved.

In Search of “Grand Prix Motors” and Its Amazing Tow-Car
I love a good racing mystery...especially one that is not easily solved by a Google Search. To recap, last Tuesday, I posted a film of the 1951 Bridgehampton Cup Race. What captured the attention of many viewers was the unique custom tow-truck hauling a racer at the 9-second mark of the film. Yesterday, we established the racer being hauled was a Swedish EFFYH. But, what was "Grand Prix Motors"?

The Racer on the Trailer at Bridgehampton in 1951

As discussed on Tuesday's post, especially intriguing is the the 9-second mark of the film where a futuristic custom-tow-car is hauling a race car in Bridgehamptom. The Futuristic Tow-Car at the 1951 Bridgehampton Races
Yesterday's post of the film documenting the 1951 Bridgehamptom Cup Race resulted in a record Tuesday viewership of VanderbiltCupRaces.com. But, the talk of the Yahoo Racing History Group and Jalopyjournal.com boards was the futuristic tow-car that appeared at the 9-second mark of the film.

In a VanderbiltCupRaces.com exclusive, this three-minute film documents the Third Annual Bridgehampton Races held on June 9,1951. This rare 16-mm film was provided by Walter McCarthy and the Long Island Old Car Club and has not been shown in over 25 years.

Old 16 at the 1952 Bridgehampton Road Race
To help promote the 1952 Bridgehampton Road Race, owner Peter Helck and his son Jerry Helck brought Old 16, the winner of the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup Race, to the course. Joe Tracy, who drove in the 1904, 1905 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races, can be seen in the driver's seat. Peter Helck is standing to the right of the Locomobile wearing his trademark beret. This previously unpublished photo was provided by Jerry Helck, who can be seen standing to the left of Tracy.
