Yes, I met the new owners of the house a short time after they moved in last year - they were cleaning out the yard and I noted the significance of the concrete posts. Very hospitable people who appreciate the historical significance of their property.

I have been conducting investigations (paranormal explorations) at this location currently called Harbor Mist which is a restaurant. I am surprised to read of the early photo with the women on upper balcony were of the Ausdall family. So many stories documenting that these were local woman who were working as prostitutes.. And the building was used as an Inn/Brothel at that time. There are some stories of murder and suicide that go along with that time (late 1800’s). So is there any truth to that or is it just made up myth/legends?

The women were members of the Ausdall family. All the other stories were pure myths!

I know the house, I pass it every so often when we visit some friends on Arthur Ave, it is right the on Broadway here in Bethpage at the end of Arthur Ave which runs along the Motor Parkway. I think it was like a drive in restaurant of sorts I believe when the Motor Parkway used to go though the area I heard they served sandwiches and coffee to the motorists who passed through. I do not know the name of it but I have seen some pictures before of it as well besides yours shown here.

It is really a beautiful photo and the amount of detail is enormous. I have no idea of the date and I will not go for the largest number of landmarks, but just for the general view. The picture is taken above Hempstead, in northward direction towards Roslyn/Hempstead Harbor. Somewhere in the middle of the photograph Jericho Turnpike runs from left to right. The area above that road was the western part of the 1905 and 1906 VC course. It could be that the road with S-bend and bridge somewhat right to the middle of the photo is the first part of the LI Motor Parkway. In the middle on the left between the trees you can see the Garden City Hotel.

Fantastic picture (date says 3.10.30) looking north from Hempstead Village to what seems Hempstead Harbor on the north shore. Motor Parkway curve around Roosevelt Field, with Office and Toll Booth, looking north is Old Country Road bridge, LIRR Bridge, Westbury Ave Bridge, I U Willets Road Bridge, and the golf course before the parkway turns west. Other cool things are the Garden City Gas Tank, The Winthrop Hospital Smoke Stack in Mineola, all the hangars of Curtiss
Field, as well as the Curtiss Factory. So much in one picture i’m still looking !!

“The right rear quarter panel shows - - - “, etc.; what that pic shows is what I recall as the inner disc lid of the hidey-hole that allowed Della to peek out at the world outside, unobserved, through the small grilles on the outer panels. You never confirmed (or denied) this. Also, for a life-long classic car afficionado (and former ‘31 Imperial owner), “Over all view of the cars currently in the shop” is truly a glimpse of paradise!
