The six Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island from 1904 to 1910 were the greatest sporting events of their day, and the first international automobile road races held in the United States. The races had a far-reaching impact on the development of American automobiles and parkways. This site provides comprehensive information on the races, the Long Island Motor Parkway and current Long Island automotive events, car shows and news.

From Tucker Topics & AACA Museum Reflections:The Most Impactful Tucker People- The Mt. Rushmore of Tucker
This Tucker reminded me of the blue Tucker convertible that some of you might have known, proclaimed ‘a secret Tucker prototype’ that when I showed a photo of this to Mark Liberman a Tucker expert at the Simone museum Tucker event declared, ‘IT A FAKE! bought parts from us’! The parts, from NOS parts, recondition parts, and new fabricated parts. Was supposed to be at some auction but it scratch, wonder why?? The 1052C? Yeah, I know it was sold more than half of the original’s Tucker values.

When were the ground level photos taken? The sign is worn out and the road has huge potholes.

That’s great info Sam. I hope the owner kept those ticket stubs and not discatded. I’d love to see a copy of one today.

In Melville of course, not to be confused with the Huntington Historic Cemetery on 25 A
From Mystery Friday #35 Solved: A View Along the Long Island Motor Parkway in Melville
Ok looks like we are facing east from the sandpit toward the Huntington Historic Cemetery and Church along Walt Whitman Rd. The parkway would run south and cross Rt 110 (where there was the toll lodge for Huntington) and head east into Suffolk Co.

Since it is constructed from parts from various Tucker parts sources I’ll take a guess at 1.5 million dollars. It isn’t quite as valuable as the other Tuckers in my opinion. It will be interesting to see what it brings at auction.

Well since you asked, Brian - here’s the conclusion as best I can find. So, no worries to all out there that take baths in horse troughs in the nude. By the way the suit was brought in 1934, after William Sr. passed away Oct. 24, 1933 at his home in Bethpage around the age of 74.

Thanks all - Yes, seems a much better choice for all involved. Except 7-11! lol
From Update-Malverne Treasure #6: 1908 Survey of the Proposed Entrance to the Bethpage Lodge
My first thoughts were the same. The eventual entrance on corner of Round Swamp Rd and Manetto serves a better exposed entrance for the lodge/parkway.

Art - One needs to enter a barcode from an institution or log on to Proquest to access the article. I happen to have a Proquest account thru my local library ( institution ), but realize that others may not.

No joy, Art. “Barcode Required”. What a kick I get out of this thread; floods of memories! Let’s not forget the USMC installation at the east end of the Curtiss property on Stewart and the Cyclone-fenced parking lot directly across Stewart from that, just east of Raymond Court, later a LILCO lot (still there). While I’m at it - Frank, that area to the west of Clinton is very much the Mott Section and, except for Triangle Park, is fully and heavily developed. Also, on your “today” aerial, “Central RR” should be “Central Branch” or “Central Extension” or “Garden-Mitchell Field Secondary Track”, as you wish - howzat for nit-pickin’? Sam, III

1939, the New York World’s Fair in Flushing Meadow Park as well, with Robert Moses at the helm. And the Motor Parkway closing just one year earlier. Seems like so much activity in such a little stretch of time.
From Mystery Foto #34 Solved: Joe Tracy at the 1939 Automobile Old Timers Luncheon in NYC
Art, In June of 1907 the Parkway purchased 4.7 acres from William A. Finger and his wife Louise for the ROW and proposed entrance paying $3011 for the two parcels. In July of 1908 the Parkway acquired the parcel marked .05 which we know was used for the lodge site and entrance way. I couldn’t find any record of monies changing hands for the .05 piece, I’m assuming that a swap took place, the Fingers taking back the original proposed entrance way for the.05 tract. The change made sense for both parties, Round Swamp Rd. was the major roadway in the area and new alignment had a much less impact on the Finger property. Al.

Really wanted to figure this out 100%, but time isn’t on my side.
Joe Tracy is seated at the table to the left of Table 8. Al Poole is left/next to Joe Tracy. Fairly sure Harry Grant is left of Al Poole. George Robertson is seated at Table 8, and I recognize a young, dark haired Peter Helck in the near right. I see the Revere Room sign. Manhattan 30th anniversary of the 1909 VCR maybe?

At the Revere room somewhere. Not sure but I think he’s sitting here….
