Walt, thank you for your information about the STAMFORD - OYSTER BAY FERRY sign.
I’m a member of the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum in the hamlet of Oyster Bay.
The museum is a two-part setup, the historic landmarked train station museum by the end of the Oyster Bay line branch. The other side is across of the train yard by Bay Ave. There’s small section on Bay Ave that has a short track from outside Museum train yard that would’ve gone to the ferry in the past, now occupied by fuel tanks and a yard of some sort.
Will be giving the museum officers a printout of this article. Thanks again Walt!

Congrats Howie & Roz (from the west coast branch of the family).  You gotta bring the Tucker back out to the West Coast for one or more of the fab classic car shows in California, so I’ll have an occasion to wear my Andante Green tucker cap again (since Pebble Beach 4 years ago).  Maybe Ironstone Winery Concours up in Gold Country (Murphys, CA) last weekend in Sept.????

Mark- apologies, I misspoke. Challenger ll did also have 3 inches removed from the body, but unlike lll, it did not have 3 inches taken from the roof or the fastback.

I am a car nut since birth. My father born in Frankfurt (1921) would tell me of this record run he witnessed. He’s (my father that is) has passed on now, a number of years before I could research the statistics of that run.
ON THAT SCORE, (WARNING) fasten your seatbelts for
this.
The Auto Union Which Came Away That Day With The Statistical Victory, Had A V16 Engine (with four banks of valves) ALL OPERATED BY ONE CAMSHAFT.
  The Tachometer Was About Eight Inches In Diameter View through The Center Of The Steering Wheel & Had A 5000 rpm redline.
OH THE VALVE TRAIN, STRAIGHT OUT OF JULES VERNE, AND THE ONLY TOME EVER USED ANYWHERE BEFORE OR SINCE PERIOD.

Well, I think I might have some of this so here goes with a few guesses:
Driver = Ralph Mulford
Passenger = George Robertson
Ralph DePalma could be second from left
The Automobile = 1914 Stutz Bearcat owned by Smith Hempstone Oliver
Location & date = Roosevelt Raceway October 12, 1936
The big race = 1936 Vanderbilt Cup

Was there, for a short stay, to say hi guys, guess who, your groupie Howard. Didn’t see Rob or wonderful Roz and Brenda Ida, aww, missed you lovely ladies, xxx.
The event was OK, just a few interesting vehicles, on the way out I pick up the best of show card and circle 61 the Tucker of course and drop in the box, and off I went on my way east.

Well… the guy in the front seat wearing a jacket looks a bit like Whitey Ford.  The driver is eerily similar to FDR!

Congratulations to Howard, Roz, and the entire restoration team! It was great to see you yesterday at the show. As I told you I had no doubt that the Tucker would win top prize. It’s an outstanding rare car that always draws many spectators at every show.
