The six Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island from 1904 to 1910 were the greatest sporting events of their day, and the first international automobile road races held in the United States. The races had a far-reaching impact on the development of American automobiles and parkways. This site provides comprehensive information on the races, the Long Island Motor Parkway and current Long Island automotive events, car shows and news.

I had a feeling that was the Black Beast in that promo! Wow, ever since Emerson Fittipaldi drove you around Indy a few laps you’ve become his protege! 😊 Great to see even more fun time for you with that car!. Keep your speed up!

Ditto that. Among all the cars at these meets and shows that caution everyone not to touch, the Beast proudly says, “Come aboard, and have some fun.” The last picture says it all.

Omar Toft mentioned above was my grandmothers cousin. She talked about him being a race car driver but not a lot of detail.

My husband and I bought a house in Levittown 3 years ago. I couldn’t figure out why there was a parcel of vacant land between houses that was a block over from us. I always wondered what it was. Now I know after hearing about the news of the possible condo development (which I just got a letter today saying it’s been halted, good news!). Also, a bit off topic, but I once almost got into a car accident driving down the block at night. I saw a teenage boy in turn of the century clothing in the middle of the street. I swear it was a ghost. I swerved, looked in my rear view mirror, and he was gone. I told my mom about this, and she said it seemed strange since there was nothingness in my neighborhood back then. Perhaps I saw someone who died in a car accident from motor parkway? who knows!

Was a great show of original well taken cared of cars,some that I have never seen before and I go to alot of car shows,this one is always the best. It’s worth the 1hr.1/2 drive to see these beautiful cars and enjoy the day,especially to see that one of a kind ALCO that I can never ever see enough of which Howard could atest to. I’m almost always there when he is.

I am proud of myself and the other LIMPPS members who sat for hours before being able to publicly speak at the hearing. We all received standing ovations . Our words obviously meant something. We are a great club and are always ready to help out. Great work everyone.

Sure anything of historical significance on Long island let’s just raze it & replace it with…......nothing. ‘cuz it’s old y’know and we gotta get rid of it.

Tom Rus:
• Proposed development would adversely affect character of neighborhood made up of single-family homes. It would potentially lead to destruction of building covenants (codified as the LPRD) that have safeguarded a peaceful and prosperous community of over 17,000 homeowners for over 60 years.
• Any tax revenues will be more than offset by the additional expenses, including:
o Sanitation / garbage removal;
o Snow removal;
o Fire Department and Emergency Medical services;
o Police services; and
o Education and School Bus expenses.
• Proposed development would adversely affect public health and safety: would create dangerous traffic congestion in an area designed to accommodate single-family, detached houses.
• Permitting the development of an apartment building-type structure would diminish the quality of life and property values of all adjacent and nearby properties. Town should only consider abolishing the LPRD (which it would accomplish by permitting this development) if the Town offers just compensation to all homeowners for the reduction in value of their homes.
• The “CA” zoning sought here is not limited to Seniors or over-55 residents. The idea that this is senior housing is being used to gain sympathy, but it is nothing except an empty promise. Developer has offered no details on how “55 and over” requirement would be administered or enforced. [Note that an elderly population would require more emergency vehicle services.]
• There is no objection to development that is consistent with the requirements of the LPRD.
