Sure looks like one of our LIRR bridges over the LIMP.  I say 1908.  Albertson or Mineola.

Alex,

Do you have some photos of when your dad owned the Pierce? It’s a unique car, and I hope to see one someday. Writing these posts has given me a great appreciation for these high-end pre-war American cars.

Great find Ariejan!
I had the same issues when trying to pair it to a Franklin.

I had to dig a bit, but eventually found out that the car is a 1908 Cameron model 7. See uploaded images.

Great spotting out that Tucker on hwy 395. That’s one of my projects sitting there.

It always nice to see new pictures of the early races, thanks for sharing!

As for the crashed mystery car, that one is a real challenge. Indeed Franklin came up first in my mind too, but I had problems finding a similar model. In the period between 1905 and 1910, when Franklin used these barrel shaped hoods, the never produced a model with a hooded dash. Besides several details just don’t match with Franklin like the rather steeply inclined steering column (with parallel auxiliary rod), the side lever configuration and the location of the crank handle.
Another option seemed to be the Pickard (built from 1909), which used a similar barrel shaped hood and shares the location of the crank handle. However these were only used for their larger models. The smaller cars had a different radiator shape and also were different in several details.
Coincidentally I had filed an almost identical car in my Franklin files, but based on the above mentioned observations the car clearly is something else. According to the caption the car is ‘An early Greensboro car ...’, which doesn’t really solve the mystery: Greensboro is a town in North Carolina and according to the Standard Catalog by Rae Kimes and Austin Clark Jr. a Greensboro Motor Car Company was organized in that city in 1911, with a note added that manufacture is doubted. So is the car a real Greensboro car or just an early car in Greensboro? More research will be needed to find out!

Kelly, my dad owned that Pierce a number of years ago, sometime in the early 1990s. The body is Brewster.

Marvelous collection of unseen photos! Thanks to Ann Marie and Mark for preventing the negatives from being trashed. High-five for sharing these gems.

The location of the J15 Selden racer could be the Motor Parkway stretch just east of the Plainview Rd bridge where the roadway has opposing curves. Both curves appear in the photo. This photo along with the P47 Itala racer photo were likely taken from the same location, but with the camera panned

Anne Marie,  Your comment about Italian emigrants working on the Parkway was right on target. Technically they were not employees of the Motor Parkway. Instead the Parkway contracted with two temp agency’s in the City who specialized in supplying Italian immigrant construction laborer’s. The man in the opening above the arrow is most likely also of Italian background because of the language situation.

Howard

I’m sure the mystery car is a Franklin, probably the small Model G, perhaps a larger Model D.

Cheers

I so admire your enthusiasm and especially your STAMINA to see your fine collection of many assorted makes and body styles attend so many events all over the USA. This Autumn around the Hershey car show time I have a friend and car collector from Brazil visiting me here on long island ( he has about 15-18 cars from the 1920s all on the road!!) and hope we can get together to have a conversation.
It has been 10 years since your CHrysler town car has been to Pebble Beach ! wow - I recall dragging it out of the basement garage at the Vanderbilt museum and towing it up the steep hill to get loaded into a trailer!!!

Hi Brian - I want to address this to you, hoping you and you family are doing ok after such a tragic loss as Marty.  My lovely wife Fran and I will NEVER forget him!!  My last phone call with him was filled with stories about the great years of Islip & Freeport, and I didn’t want him to stop!!  And seeing that museum, with all the memories that is second to none, made me email you once again and ask that this museum re-open and be maintained in his memory.  We treasure the 2 years that we sang there, and reading the long list of car #’s and drivers that took forever to prepare and read, was so memorable and special!!
I am so hopeful that this museum will remain open in his memory.  God Bless you and the entire Himes family - I will always remember Marty as a great driver and “The Nostalgia Guy””!! Fran and Al

The movie being filmed was Crocodile Dundee-2 starring Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski. It was released in 1988 so the filming probably took place in 1987. The location was supposed to be Rico’s (the bad guy) villa but was actually filmed at “Eagle’s Nest”, Willie K.‘s Centerport estate.
