Look at all those big smiles! What could be better than being at Lime Rock AND sitting behind the wheel of the Alco!

I love this as it is on my street and I’ve taken many students and visitors there. I used to ride along the Parkway on my bike as a kid when the bridge over the LITT was still there. What happened to the idea of restoring it as a bicycle path?

As always, nice work Howard. I’ve walked down the driveway that leads to the Roslyn Water District many times (For work purposes).  I had no clue there was a farmway underpass in this area. If you look right as you walk towards the district, a portion of the LIMP is upwards(private property).

The early ‘stock’ car racing is interesting. This may have been the first of a long line of Hudson racing history.  The founders of Hudson cars had worked for R.E. Olds and Chalmers pre-1909.  Hudson offered a model 20 based semi-racer circa 1910. The Hudson EXPRESS was a stripped down production car based on the longer touring car chassis. It looked very much like #42.  Thanks again for this post.

Hi Guy,
I have added a historical society category.

Please try to find a category for Bridgehampton Racing Heritage Group (CA 1981).
We would now like to evolve into an umbrella organization to begin preservation of the entire history of motor sports competition on Long Island. All welcome.

From Dennis B:

“I can recall Candlewood Path having open access to Deer Park Ave until the mid 1960’s at the location adjacent to Deer Park Ave. I think they closed it after there were too many accidents, it was a very confusing intersection, especially after the 1965 or so widening of DP Ave. There is no doubt that the location is correct here… I also used to play at the abandoned DP Speedway and some old guy would shoot BB’s at us when he saw us on the property. It was redeveloped in the late 1980s.

You also could walk all the way to the LIE where the terminus was created at Half Hollow Road back then, I made my dad take me there when I was 5, just had to see it!”

Howard thank you very much,  And the next time I see you remind me to tell you why that side entrance or road, to the Motor Parkway (In that photo) with no toll lodge, East of the Deer Park Ave bridge was there for. Keep up the good work.  Joseph(Motorpky)DeBono

From Henry:
““I hope you and your neighbors will join me at this critical Tues., Sept 4 hearing. If it is impossible for you to attend, but wish to have your opposition to their rezoning application considered as part of the official record, please submit comments in writing by Sept 4 to: Town of Hempstead Hempstead Town Board/Crocus Lane Hearing Attention: Town Clerk’s Office One Washington Street Hempstead, NY 11550 For your correspondence to be recorded, it must include your name (print & sign), full address and phone number. The property owner is obligated to build within the constraints of the current Levittown Planned Residence District (LPRD) single family zoning. Any change in zoning would set a precedent for other incongruous development that will destroy Levittown. Working together, we can stop this rezoning, preserving Levittown’s character and suburban quality of life we currently enjoy.”
