Maybe after restoration, we could see this again, but with better lighting, angles and the ability to enlarge all photos, not just a few? Other than that, nice piece.

The estate is called “Deepdale” located in Lake Success, the home is still standing and is located at 10 Westcliff Drive, Lake Success.
The home was built by William K. Vanderbilt II, and is the founder of the Vanderbilt Cup Race.

Thank you for the review of the LIMP in Babylon (the only piece in Babylon).  That area is now “Wheatley Heights.”  There are sections that still exist in the woods, paralleling Bagatelle Road.  As the former Babylon Town Historian and one who lives in Wheatley Heights, I have scoured this area many times.  Much of it is still wooded.  Also, there were a couple of old brick works on the same property. Some great history here!

That’s “Rosemary Hall”, home of Vanderbilt Cup racer Foxhall P. Keene who participated in the 1905 and 1908 races but did not finish in either one. It is still standing and is currently a private residence on Mansion Drive in Old Westbury. Traditional legend has it that Delmonico’s restaurant in NYC named a new dish “Chicken a La Keene” after it was suggested to the chef by Foxhall. The menu item has evolved into “Chicken a La King”. However, according to Delmonico’s website, it was actually suggested by Foxhall’s father, James R. Keene (see attached).

George Vanderbilt, cousin of Willie K.
His estate, Biltmore, is in Asheville, NC and was damaged during Hurricane Helene.  I visited there in May, 2023.  Definitely worth the visit.  George was instrumental in the good roads movement and helped define road building in the country.

Definitely had me scratching my head with the scene of the first image and vehicles on both sides traveling the same direction.

Ernie-
That was partly the purpose of this post. If you happen to see one of these fakes, just post a link to this post on the site and there’s your response.

It takes all of my reserves not to comment nor report these AI fakes. I think my best response is to let them die a quite death by not replying.

Hey Greg,. Didn’t know the LIMP was a one way road.  The A.I. images make that very clear.

Just saw this on the NYC Archives site (some other interesting stuff there) about the designation of the Queens “bike path”. Letter from Robert Moses about a month after the LIMP closed, stating his intention to open the path .

Thanks Greg for highlighting these “fake” Motor Parkway pictures.  As a researcher, I believe there’s opportunity for AI assistance, however I take a more pessimistic view that people will simply accept what they see and read.  Thank heavens for vanderbiltcupraces.com.  It does pain me quite a bit when looking at the photos you posted and hopefully AI is seen as what it is - just one more tool when trying to learn.  But I hope it does not encourage others to post more on social media, even for fun as most people do not read between the lines.  Just my thoughts.
