partially obscured by he telephone pole in the photo, but the sign in front of the Gulf station is the same sign and pole that Howard has in front of the Waterfront.

Al, That is a Gulf Station on the north west corner of the intersection, Must have been there a while as the name was Airport Service Station. At the time the photo was taken the Texaco Station was either Hy’s Super Service or Rainbow Texaco Service Center. Regarding the diner, it didn’t replace the Texaco Station, the gas station there disappeared with the last widening of Glen Cove Road. The diner that replaced the one in the photo is same place, now a corner landmark.

He almost drove for 2 days straight around a 1 mile track! Insane indeed, but he was beyond determined.

In doing unrelated research, I discovered that the Arma Corp. building was dedicated on October 11, 1951, as part of the “LI Industrial Exposition,” making the photo date more likely to be Sept-Oct 1951.

This one took some sleuthing and im still not sure about it. I dont have answers to every question. Here goes
- Intersection of Old country Road (E-W) and Clinton Road (S) and Glen cove Road (N)
-Facing North
-Mineola train motor parkway bridge is visible on the far left.
-1950 - westbury ave bridge is completely gone

-31 cents a gallon
-1957 is my guess for the date of the photo

There was more than one POW camp at Mitchel Field. Besides the one identified in the newspaper articles above for Germans in the vicinity of Camp Mills, there was also one for captured Italian POWs elsewhere on the Base environs.
I had heard it may have been in the Southeast corner of the property, North of Hempstead Turnpike and immediately West of Perimeter Road, adjacent to the Meadow Brook Golf Club (explaining the presence of electrified, barbed wire fencing along their common border).
Anyone know where it was located?

My Father loved the Beau Sejour restaurant; he had his law office in Bethpage—and this restaurant was a beloved landmark. I remember it as a small child. Yes, this establishment is sorely missed. Everything possible should have been done to preserve it. That it was not saved is a true tragedy. I am heartbroken over its loss.

No kudo for me, aerial it’ll be. My answers are on the marked aerial attached. I’m guessing the date to be 1952. Consolidated Lithograph and Woodhall Industries were built in 1950. Korvettes was built in 1954, not seen in this foto.

See an illustration at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeet_shooting for a diagram that better matches the photo. Building to immediate south is in proper position to be a storage area or clubhouse, which makes sense because shooters would be aiming to the north.

Mystery Foto #19…Can’t identify the aerial pic at all. As for part 2, the car is a Volvo 444 (NOT A 544, note split windshield). The price of gas was 31.9 cents per gallon. The best I can date it is 1957 as per the year shown on license plate. Wish I had more.

Your semi-circle looks like a Skeet Range. Notice that the left tower is higher than the right which is standard for skeet houses. A Trap range might be to the right of the skeet range. I am going to guess that it is a gun club.

As an addendum to my “Comment” of a few minutes ago a quick trip to GOOGLE indicates the VOLVO automobile to be a Model PV444 or perhaps a PV544 which were produced from 1944-1966. The wonders of internet access to information are amazing, including this fine blog. Thanks, Jonathan Richards in Missouri.

I believe the white automobile being fueled up is a VOLVO. Based on a 1955 Ford parked just beyond the gas pump area I suspect the date of the photo is about 1955. The gasoline price per gallon , posted on the pump , is 31.9 per gallon. I cannot ID the driver of the white car.
