The six Vanderbilt Cup Races held on Long Island from 1904 to 1910 were the greatest sporting events of their day, and the first international automobile road races held in the United States. The races had a far-reaching impact on the development of American automobiles and parkways. This site provides comprehensive information on the races, the Long Island Motor Parkway and current Long Island automotive events, car shows and news.

Great narrative of the facinating process.
Actually being done quite fast as restorations go.

Man, that looks like a lot of work! And coming along beautifully. Hey, the driver’s side center speed streak looks a little off! The passenger’s is ok.

WOW! You just might win First in Show at the Beach! Love that Imperial 8 engine; it’s the same as I had in my ‘31 Imperial CG. As to your so-called “rear seat vanity” and “decorative rear speed streaks just behind doors on the quarter panel”, as I recall the car, those hid “hidey-holes” that allowed Mrs. C. to peek out without being seen. At first I “knew” it was the underpass made to allow construction materials for Levittown to pass under the LIMP RoW. Then I read on and, obviously, it predates any such. This makes me wonder, however, just what am I remembering. There WAS an underpass for that purpose, but under what RoW, and where? Sam, III

This looks like the Motor Parkway bridge on Colonial Springs Road in Wheatley Heights, Wyandanch when I was growing up. There is now a shopping strip and post office across the street and a VFW Hall on the east side of the former bridge. There was also a Motor Parkway bridge which ran across Little East Neck Road just north of Colonial Springs Road in what I knew as Wyandanch. Both bridges were razed by the Town of Babylon in the early 1960s. I wish you would show photos of the Vanderbilt estate in Wheatley Heights, now known as Madonna Heights School for Girls

It’s seems like a never ending job, but it’s getting there, slowly but surely ,piece by piece and at he end it will be well worth the long wait, for this work of excellence.

I’ve come across this photo in the past. It’s the LIMP traveling. over Colonial Springs Rd in Wheatly Heights. Pretty sure this photo is from the 1960’s, looking west ; I think.

Howard-I went back and was amazed at the work that was done and thanked two of the workers for what a great job that is being done, as you’ll see from the pictures I’m going to send, if you want me to tomorrow? This time I went from Carman towards Stewart, but not all the way to it, then from Stewart back, so that you can see how much was done from the last time.

Mike Carroll:
Thanks very much for your hospitality yesterday. When you asked if some of our members would enjoy a ride I did not imagine that everyone who wanted one would be able to enjoy the experience. I have attached a few pictures that you might be able to use in your website.
