The building at the bottom of the photo was I believe the local Lincoln car dealer in the 1920s. Check earlier posts on this site for a report on that dealership .

Great photographs! Never thought the day would come to see these long lost images of a roadway view facing the Old Country Rd bridge, and also a roadway view on top of the Mineola RR bridge. It’s the closest to actually driving on the Motor Parkway 100+ years later. Fantastic images Howard!

Wow! Glad no one was hurt. This reminded me of the rolling Chevy Corvair with a rear engine mount. No sudden turns with this ‘cuda!

Hi ALL:
The cars are a bit difficult to zero in on due to photos being obscure.  The clock
tower photo is about 1995.  I am enjoying this site every day and a big THANKS !!

Denis, Al and for anyone else that’s curious. According to the Tax/Property Maps within the Suffolk County GIS website, the entire LIMP ROW east of Bagatelle Rd,including the section heading north till it “ends” at the sump off of Essex Ct, is part of the SCO ( Madonna Heights ) property.

Great images. I’m guessing the museum didn’t attract enough visitors afterwards. You’d think the museum would be a relaxing visit for the hectic city life.

* A. Holly Patterson:  Republican, he was the Nassau County Executive from 1953 thru 1962.

*Passenger:  I’m saying it’s Master Builder, Robert Moses. The image where the passenger is facing forward doesn’t quite look like Moses ( you can’t see his eyes ), but the passengers profile brings Moses to mind.

*ID Auto:  I can’t identify.

*When, Where, and Why:  I located an article in the 4/27/1957 issue of Newsday titled:  Ceremonies Mark Medicine Academy - A. Holly Patterson, Robert Moses, and Dr. Howard R Craig were speakers for the opening of the new academy. Ceremony was held at Stewart Ave. and Meadowbrook Pkwy ( which is #1200 Stewart Ave. Garden City, NY ).

It appears their parked on the side of a large building w/garage doors. Tough to say if this is part of the academy location. I read that Robert Moses did have a drivers license, but he utilized limo’s for travel. Mr. Patterson looks to be donning a chauffeur’s cap. Looks like their acting out and having a ball!

Walt Gosden:
The car is without doubt a street rod or hot rod. Body is from a Model A Ford.
The time frame got me to think that about that time my Dad took me to a hot rod /custom car show on the south shore of Long Island in Nassau County.
I would have been about 8 years old. It was held in a brick building perhaps someplace along Merrick Road or Sunrise Highway. Anyway there were cars on display an I think it may have been in early Fall or the Spring of the year ( because it was held inside) if I remember all the cars were of the pre-WWII era and all hot rods. For some reason Seaford pops into my head or someplace like that - Freeport?
I think someone in the Long Island Street Rod Association with a long history may possible give a clue of that show and perhaps who owned the car. I do not recall seeing this car at any display in the past 40 years. Although the LISA did not form until 1972 there may be some people there that can recall that

Mystery Foto #47… , A. Holly Patterson was the Republican county executive of Nassau County, New York, from 1953-1962. The likely passenger in the car was the owner OR… perhaps the Republican party chairman for Nassau???
The car looks to be a modified Ford Model A roadster with a track car nose.
Research about the car and the occasion came up empty.

Looks beautiful Howard! Looking forward to seeing it in person. That trailer sure makes it easy to load. I don’t think Wayne Carini has one since they have his cars driven onto the trailer on Chasing Classic Cars.

Howard asked me a while back what color should he re-paint the Tucker 48?  I informed him, the original color.  I believe many antique car owners, like myself agree with me.  Enjoy your newly repainted Tucker 48, Howard.

Correction - that “tours” link is up TOP, not bottom, and on the LIMP Index page, not the “A” page!  Regardless, it now reads http://sbiii.com/limptour.html and now works.  Sam, III

Tours?  Only to Howard and Al and Parks & Trails New York (formerly New York Parks & Conservation Association).  AHA!  You may be referring to a bad link at the bottom of my “A” page, “A Winter’s Tale”, “For a tour guide to the Parkway, see the host’s {my} LIMP Tour Page”.  I’ll fix it ASAP.  It will read::
http://sbiii.com/limptour.html {I left off “.html”} and that, you’ll see, is a “virtual” tour, all words, no pix (and ‘way out of date, probably).  Sorry ‘bout that.  Sam, III
