Film “Around the Block in the Black Beast”
In preparation for this Sunday's Port Jefferson Hill Climb, a racing video camera has been attached to the side of the Alco "Black Beast". In a test run, a three-minute ride up and down "East Hills" was dcoumented in this three-minute film.

Starting Lineup: The 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race
A large field of 30 cars raced in the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race held on October 1, 1910. The race was run on the same course as in 1909- a total of 12.64 miles including 5.15 miles of the Long Island Motor Parkway. The winner needed to complete 22 laps of the course for a total of 278.08 miles. Remember to click on the images to enlarge them:

“Black Beast” Roars on Fifth Avenue at the Museum of the City of New York
Two nights ago, the Alco "Black Beast" lit up Fifth Avenue as part of the Museum of the City of New York's first 2010 "Speakeasy Night". Check out the fire coming out of the exhuast pipes in this two-minute film. Speakeasy guests, museum staff and families in the community all gave the "Black Beast" a big thumbs up:

Then & Now: The American Locomotive Company Plant in Providence, Rhode Island
The American Locomotive Company, often shortened to Alco, was created in 1901 with the merger of eight locomotive manufacturers including the Rhode Island Locomotive Works located in Providence as seen in this photo. In the early 1900s, all the company's locomotive manufacturing was moved to Schenectady, New York and all the other plants were closed. Alco, now based in Schenectady, became the second largest steam locomotive builder in the US and went on to build the famous "Big Boy"…

Press Release “Black Beast” at Klingberg in June”
The "Black Beast" will be making its third trip to Connecticut over the last two years with an appearance at the Klingberg Vintage Motorcar Festival in New Britain on Saturday, June 19, 2010. The festival has recently issued a press release on the race car.
