Thumbs Ups for the Floral Park Vanderbilt Cup Race Historical Marker Unveiling Ceremony
It was a wonderful day in Floral Park at the ceremony placing a Vanderbilt Cup Races historic marker at Jericho Turnpike and Emerson Avenue. Over 100 people attended the unveiling ceremony.

Carlo Demand and the Alco “Black Beast” on Long Island
In 2011, I met car rally enthusiast Steve McKelvie at the Lime Rock Historic Festival. I recently discovered two blog posts by Steve McKelvie concerning the Alco Black Beast. This SteveMcKelvie.com post focused on artist Carlo Demand's painting of the Alco Black Beast and the Corbin Cannonball during the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race.

The 1909 Alco 40-HP Runabout Sold for $280,500 by Gooding & Company at Amelia Island
In May 2011, I had the opportunity to visit the famous basement garage of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. Among the many spectacular automobiles in the basement was a 1909 Alco Runabout.

Last Tuesday, Discovery's Velocity Channel premiered its 10-part series AmeriCarna featuring Ray Evernham. On Tuesday, March 4, 2014, the series will focus on the Vanderbilt Cup Races and automobile racing on Long Island.
