Less than four months before the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race, the first French Grand Prix was held outside of Le Mans on June 26 and 27, 1906. The race was well-documented in this 10-minute film in which nine Vanderbilt Cup Race drivers and their racers participated.

Kleiner’s Korner Part I: Illustrating the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race and the Motor Parkway
In addition to magazines using photographs to graphically enhance a story, illustrations were also often times used. One illustrator employed by "The Motor Way" magazine was Henry Thiede whose drawings in 1906 portrayed anecdotes of the Vanderbilt Cup Race and the building of the Motor Parkway.

Kleiner’s Korner: From the Helck Family Collection- In Search of the 1905 Locomobile Racer
Prior to "Old 16" gaining fame and fortune, the Locomobile Company built a "monster" racer that participated in the 1905 Gordon Bennett and Vanderbilt Cup Races. While much is known about "Old 16", very little attention is given to why the 1905 racer was built and what became of it. An unpublished article found in the Peter Helck Family Collection and additional research and information provided by blog reader Allen Haywood provides further detail.

Ever since the first Vanderbilt Cup Race was run in 1904, members of various motorcycle clubs were used to help manage the races and man the course. And while The Motor Parkway was being built, they saw the value of it as a venue for their own races.
