Trucking Down to the Vanderbilt Cup Races
The vast majority of spectators to the Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island from 1904 to 1910 came from New York City. They utilized every mode of transportation available including; trains, automobiles, horses, trolleys and trucks which were the precursors to buses.

The Course for the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race
The construction of a new trolley line on Jericho Turnpike from Queens to Mineola in 1906 forced a redesigned of the western section of the course for the 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race from its 1905 configuration. These nine maps provided information on the new 29.7 mile course

The Amazing Roslyn Estate of a 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Race Spectator
Clarence Mackay (1874-1938) was the heir to the Comstock silver fortune and a major figure in the development of the international telegraph business. Before and after the Vanderbilt Cup Races, Mackay would host huge parties for friends and business associates at his 648-acre Harbor Hill Estate overlooking the village of Roslyn.

Then & Now: Maple Cottage- The Locomobile Headquarters for the 1905 and 1906 Vanderbilt Cup Races
Racing teams for the Vanderbilt Cup Races typically had local headquarters to store and work on their racers and also provide lodging. In 1905 and 1906, the Locomobile team from nearby Bridgeport, Connecticut set up their headquarters at Maple Cottage, a farmhouse and inn located in Lakeville (now Lake Success).
