A Postcard View from the Powell Avenue Motor Parkway Bridge in Bethpage
Cyril, the location of the Motor Parkway in his excellent postcard had me stumped for months. However, the big curve in the background and the bridge just after the curve (seen just above the trees on the right) were major clues. Here's your answer: (0 comments)

Five More Vanderbilt Cup Race Photos from the Pickering Collection
As discussed this week, on Wednesday I met with Catherine Pickering, the granddaughter of William Pickering, one of Long Island's first photographers. Our examination of her grandfather's photo collection revealed several Vanderbilt Cup Race photos, many never published before. An Amazing Discovery from the Pickering Collection-The 1906 #10 Apperson
William Pickering was one of the earliest Long Island photographers documenting many of the people, buildings and events in Nassau County including the Vanderbilt Cup Races. On Wednesday, Catherine Pickering and I examined her collection of photos and postcards created by her grandfather. The above unmarked photo of a car accident got our attention. Was the car a Vanderbilt Cup Racer? If so, which one and what happened? I promised Catherine, I would find out. (1 comments)

Meeting the Granddaughter of a Vanderbilt Cup Race Photographer
Today I had a fascinating meeting with Catherine Pickering, granddaughter of William Pickering. As one of the first Long Island photographers, William Pickering shot scenes of the the Vanderbilt Cup Races from 1905 to 1910. Pickering would then sell these photos as postcards in his East Broadway Roslyn store. (2 comments)

Attention Vanderbilia collectors: This eight-minute film features over 90 pieces of memorabilia associated with the Vanderbilt Cup Races (1904-1960) and the Long Island Motor Parkway (1908-1938).
