VanderbiltCupRaces.com Exclusive:  Images of The Last Brentwood Lodge & the Commack Spur Road

The final road construction on the Motor Parkway was the completion of the 1.55-mile Commack Spur" connecting Jericho Turnpike to the Parkway in September 1928. Located just 1/5 mile east of Commack Road, it was hoped that the spur would further increase traffic on the Parkway. The Spur was promoted in a new Motor Parkway brochure and map with an arrow pointed to the new entrance with a note to "Turn Left at Red Disc". (1 comments)

In Search of Alcos: #7 1912 Alco Touring Car Owned By Andy Oldman

Over the last 25 years, it has been widely written that there are only 12 original, rebuilt and restored Alcos that exist in museums and private collections. As requested by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I have been attempting to track down the Alco "12". As noted by Roberto Rodriguez of the Seal Cove Auto Museum located on Mount Desert Island, Maine, Alco #7 is owned by Andy Oldman of New London, New Hampshire: (1 comments)

For the Dingley Family: Part I-  Bert Dingley and the Vanderbilt Cup Races

About a year ago, Mary Quigley of Ashfield, Massachsetts emailed me a request for photos of Bert Dingley. The reason for her interest in a driver who participated in two Vanderbilt Cup Races (1905 and 1910) and two American Elimination Trials (1905 and 1906) was very understandable- Mary is Bert Dingley's granddaughter. These are some of the 1905 photos that I had forwarded to the Dingley family. (1 comments)

The Lakeville Road Motor Parkway Bridge in Lake Success

Robbi S.: "I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog and thank you for the effort you put into it. I've developed an avid interest in the LIMP, especially relating to the Lake Success area since I grew up there. I have never found nor seen any photos of the bridge that spanned Lakeville Rd. or of the extant parkway between Lakeville and New Hyde Park Rd.(after the toll lodge). Are you aware of any?" Suffolk County Airmap 1930 Aerial Survey #1: Ronkonkoma

In 1928 Suffolk County commissioned an aerial photography company to create a comprehensive record of their roads, terrain and properties. Two years later, the Airmap company photographed the entire county including our favorite historic road; the Long Island Motor Parkway. Courtesy of the Suffolk County Department of Planning, the first in the series of Suffolk county Airmaps highlights the Ronkonkoma area: (1 comments)
