    Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #5 Rocky Hill Road (Springfield Boulevard) Bridge

    A total of 60 Motor Parkway bridges were built from 1908 to 1926 ...a pioneering concept to eliminate grade crossings for an automobile road. There are four types of Motor Parkway bridges; over crossroads (parkway bridges), under crossroads (highway bridges), over railroad tracks (railroad bridge) and, as part of right-of-way agreements, to connect farmlands (farmway bridges).     What Hampered the Marmon Wasp During 2011 Indy 500 Parade Lap

    The 2011 Indy 500 Parade Lap was led by the historic 1911 Marmon Wasp, winner of the first Indy 500. Although successful in completing two parade laps, the Marmon had difficulties starting and running.     Joe Dawson- Hero of the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race & Winner of the Second Indy 500

    Born in 1889 in Odon, Indiana, Joe Dawson competed in the the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race and three Indy 500 Races (1911, 1912 and 1914). Joe Dawson finished second in the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race losing by only 25 seconds and won the 1912 Indy 500 Race. He was considered the hero of the 1910 Vanderbilt Cup Race for stopping to check on the condition of an injured spectator during the race. (3 comments)
