    Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #9 The Creedmoor Bridge in Queens Updated: 10/22/16

    When the 48 miles of the Motor Parkway were completed in 1926, a total of 60 bridges were built by William K. Vanderbilt Jr. and his associates over and under the parkway. Going west to east, the ninth bridge from the Western Terminus at Nassau Boulevard (Horace Harding Boulevard) was a highway bridge connecting the properties belonging to the State Hospital at Creedmoor: (4 comments)

    Film “Back Street” (1941) and the Vanderbilt Cup Race

    No greater evidence of the success and fame of the Vanderbilt Cup Races emerged than when popular culture embraced it. In 1906, the races inspired a Broadway musical the "Vanderbilt Cup". Charlie Chaplin and Mabel Normand starred in a Mack Sennett film "Mabel at the Wheel" with the actual 1914 Vanderbilt Cup Race in the background.     A section of the Long Island Motor Parkway was built in East Williston between the Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Railroad and Roslyn Road.     Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #8 Alley Road Bridge (Winchester Boulevard)  in Queens

    When the 48 miles of the Motor Parkway were completed in 1926, a total of 65 bridges were built by William K. Vanderbilt Jr. and his associates over and under the parkway. Twelve of the bridges were built in Queens. Going west to east, the eighth bridge carried the Motor Parkway over Alley Road , now Winchester Boulevard.
