    Long Island Motor Parkway Bridge Series: #25 Wheatley Hills “Golfway” Bridge in East Williston

    A total of 65 bridges were built by the Motor Parkway from 1908 to 1931 including; parkway bridges (Motor Parkway was on top of the bridge over roads and railroad tracks), highway bridges (Motor Parkway went under the bridge), farmway bridges (Motor Parkway connected adjoining farmland) and one golfway bridge.     Smith & Mabley’s Attempt to Sell a 90 HP Simplex Following the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup Race

    The primary reason for automobile manufacturers to invest in expensive racing cars and participate in the Vanderbilt Cup Races was to promote their product lines. As an example, one week after the 1904 race, Joseph S. Bunting, secretary and treasurer of Smith & Mabley Manufacturing of New York City, sent a four-page letter to a prospective wealthy buyer, Horace A. Beale, owner of the Parkesburg Iron Company. The races had a far-reaching impact on the development of American automobiles and parkways.
